Reading Material

I love reading and I am working to make sure my children love reading too. In an alternate timeline, I finished my master’s degree and became a Librarian, specifically working as an archivist. For various reasons, I did not complete my degree and actually dropped out of school at the second semester. Do I regret it? No, but I do sometimes wish I could work at a library. But I am digressing.

As an herbalist, it is extremely important to have various sources of knowledge. The main reason being is not every book is going to have every herb or even most herbs in it. Some books have the history of the herbs and its usage, while other books will be more modern and have more of a scientific approach to it. And other books, will document what the author uses and how it helps in their life.

The other reason why it is important to have different sources but more specifically have physical books you can refer to is because you should not rely only one what you have stored in your head. Write down your own notes, draw pictures, color coordinate but do not solely rely on your own knowledge.

If you are interested in herbalism, here are some books, I recommend.

What I love about the books above is they provide you a wealth of knowledge, as well as history and easy to make recipes to start you off. They each read differently and provide different emotions when reading it. For instance, Our Kindred Home by Alyson Morgan feels like a warm hug and it feels like you are reading a journal entry.

Herbal by Mimi Prunella Hernandez reads like I am going to my favorite class in school.

While having different resources is important when picking out the books you want on your shelf, look for the following:

  1. Does this have the information I am looking for?

  2. Does this have the information that I am currently missing?

  3. How do I feel when reading this book?

  4. Can I confirm that the author of the book is a real person and not AI?

This last point is really important because with the increased use of AI a lot of books are not being written by an actual person, so always be sure to vet that.

Do you have any reading materials you keep on hand?
